Practically everyone has the increasingly popular device that lets you see who’s popping by unannounced when you are not even home: a smart doorbell camera! However, doorbell camera installation and variation may be more complicated than you might think. These doorbell cameras offer a wide variety of benefits. They deter burglars, provide evidence, confirm deliveries and people coming over, and possibly even save money on insurance.

Doorbell Brands

The most common name for doorbell cameras is a Ring doorbell, but many other brands exist. Some may better suit your home and personal needs.

Ring Video Doorbell offers 1536p resolution, vivid HDR colors, and advanced features. It only comes with a wired installation option, but as its popular name indicates, it’s voted one of the best video doorbells.

Google Nest Doorbell includes features like package detection, cloud storage, and subject identification alerts without a subscription. This doorbell wireless installation and setup.

Eufy Security Video Doorbell offers excellent resolution and impressive night vision, and it can be used wired or with a battery.

Arlo Essential Video Doorbell is another battery-operated model. It offers a 180-degree view and a wider sight range than others. The battery is removable, so you will have to charge it, but you do not have to dismount the doorbell to do so completely.

Wyze Wireless Doorbell is affordable with a 2K resolution, a 150-degree field of view, and fast notification speeds. It can be powered by a battery or wired installation.

Logitech Circle View Video Doorbell plays best with Apple, offering the fastest installation setup, cleanest UI, and quickest response times. But this camera has one of the more complicated wired installation processes.

Blink Video Camera Doorbell has a mini camera for additional use inside, allowing you to monitor other rooms in your home. It uses either a wired or wire-free installation.

Doorbell Camera Considerations

Storage, distance, quality, alerts, and power source are just a few considerations. While storing video on a memory card is convenient and free, you may prefer models that save footage in the cloud for security purposes. Most video doorbells can detect motion up to 25 feet away, but details begin to degrade around 15 feet. Additionally, all cameras respond to movement, but some can distinguish between people, pets, passing vehicles, and even package deliveries.

But as far as power is concerned, wired or battery-powered doorbells will make a difference in self or professional installation. Wired doorbells are lower maintenance since you will need to charge battery-operated doorbells every few weeks or months. No one wants to remember to charge, especially regarding security. However, installing wiring for a doorbell can be a more significant project than anticipated.

Doorbell Camera Installation

When homeowners purchase smart doorbells, they sometimes assume they can install them themselves. However, properly installing doorbell cameras generally requires electrical work. This type of work can be dangerous for anyone who isn’t a licensed electrician to attempt. As with any electrical project, hiring JQ Electric’s professional technicians is your best bet! You can ensure you remain safe and the job is done right.
